• Lawns and landscape beds

Characteristics:

• Perennial yellowish-green grass-like plant is common in moist areas but is occasionally found in drier conditions
• Long, narrow, waxy appearing triangular shaped stems
• Flowers are yellowish or brownish spikelets similar to those of grasses
• Root system is fibrous
• Underground stems known as rhizomes form off-white, marble sized tubers (nutlets) from which new plants grow each spring

Significance:

• Minnesota Secondary Noxious Weed
• Tolerates and survives normal lawn mowing conditions
• Often found in lawn areas that are moist
